In Nov 2022, 78% of Ethereum blocks censored OFAC transactions, undermining decentralization—a critical concern for both Ethereum and Optimism. Launching our credibly-neutral relay that month, we now connect to ~75% of validators, all major builders, and relay around ~30% of Ethereum blocks, reducing block censorship to 29%. This relay fortifies proposer-builder separation, leveling the playing field for all proposers in accessing MEV revenue, thereby bolstering decentralization. Running an effective relay is costly (10k - 20k a month) with thousands of block bids submitted each slot, and has so far been funded entirely by generous supporters.
